Kilberry Sportive
The "Kilberry Loop" is a firm favourite cycling route for members of Mid Argyll Triathlon & Cycle Club.
This stunning route navigates alongside the Sound of Jura in the West and the picturesque Loch Fyne in the East, connected by West Loch Tarbert to the South and the Loch Aral ascent in the North - with superb panoramic coastal views throughout.
With its pleasant winding roads and short, sharp climbs, the route is aptly suitable to both socially leisurable and full-effort training rides. Tackling this near 40 mile circular route crossing the Knapdale peninsula, plenty opportunity is provided to truly appreciate the incredible views - it is safe to say, cresting the top of the climbs you will need to get your breath back!
For the more determined cyclist, there are a few notable Strava segments to aim for:
- "Golf Course to Old Stables" - 15km dash along northern West Loch Tarbert shore, but it's no home-sprint;
- "Low Gigha Here" - Full half-mile lung-buster of constant yet deceptive gradient, all before that pre-summit ramp;
- "Loch Aral, West to East Traverse" - If this 2 mile climb doesn't have your legs screaming from the lactic, well...;
- "Kilberry Loop" - The full circuit. 61km with 750m total climbing.
